US authorities say bombs that exploded near the finish line of the Boston Marathon have killed two people and injured more than 120. Eight hospitals report that they are treating at least 124 people. Of those, at least 15 are in critical condition.
The White House does not yet know who planned and carried out the explosions but is handling the incident as “an act of terror,” a White House official said.
The New York Post reported a bomber was seen on CCTV footage and that a Saudi national – aged 20 – has been placed under armed guard with burn wounds in an undisclosed Boston hospital. However, Boston police have since said they do not have a suspect in custody.
