Hardly a minority viewpoint on the left.

Via Politico:

Bill Maher says the Second Amendment is “bullsh—” and is calling the bipartisan gun deal on background checks “so marginal” as he laments that politicians are afraid to address more substantive areas of the debate about firearms.

“After the tragedy at Newtown, there was talk about banning assault weapons – that’s completely dead. And then the other thing they wanted to do was limit the number of clips in a gun – that’s completely dead. So now we’re down to background checks,” Maher said Friday on HBO’s “Real Time.”

“So they came up with a bill, it’s called – this is the one that we’re allowed to debate, thank Jesus, we’re allowed to actually debate it, this is seen as a victory – it’s called the Public Safety and Second Amendment Rights Protection Act. Everybody gets a little tug in there. And what they’re debating is so marginal.”
