Speaking of loserville, has anyone seen MSNBC’s nightly lineup?

As we reported earlier this morning, a new profile of MSNBC chief Phil Griffin in The New Republic reveals plenty of fascinating details from inside the network, namely some information on the internal Keith Olbermann feud, and the origins of Rachel Maddow.

But from a media business perspective, one particularly interesting detail of the piece is when author Rebecca Dana reveals that Griffin “optimistically” expects to beat first-place rival Fox News within the next year.

“MSNBC is more successful now than it has ever been,” Dana wrote. “At the end of this presidential election, it drew an average of 1.5 million viewers to its weekday prime time lineup. (The numbers have fallen since.) Fox still gets more than two million a night, but Griffin, optimistically, believes he can beat Fox by 2014.”

“It’s a cockiness that has funneled down,” she added. “In a recent staff meeting, one of Griffin’s producers coined a new term for Fox News: ‘Loserville.’”
