I thought the Tea Party was dead or something?

Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Steve Israel on Wednesday stopped short of predicting that his party would seize the 17 House seats needed to flip control of the chamber.

“I can’t tell you today we will be north or south of 17 seats,” Israel (D-N.Y.) told reporters. “I can tell you we’re doing everything we can to put it in play.”

Israel made the remarks following a presentation to lobbying and trade association groups in which he outlined the DCCC’s early recruitment efforts. The gathering was also opened to reporters.

The DCCC chairman has been far more subdued about his party’s prospects than in 2012, when he and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi repeatedly said that Democrats had put control of the House in play. The party ended up netting eight seats, short of the 25 it needed.
