As Secretary of State John Kerry was attempting to leave the country to continue on his Middle East tour, hundreds of protesters briefly blocked the road to Cairo’s International Airport.

Al Arabiya reports that the protesters were Al-Ahly fans football fans blocked the road in anticipation of a court ruling this weekend in which rival supporters in Port Said face sentencing over a deadly post match riot Al-Ahly fans want those on trial convicted.

Dozens were recently killed in violence in Port Said over the football case and there was further violence today.

According to Ahram Online:

Some 360 people were injured in clashes between police and protesters near Port Said’s security directorate on Sunday, according to Egypt’s health ministry.

More than 260 protesters suffered teargas inhalation as police fired rounds of teargas canisters at demonstrators opposed to a decision by the interior ministry to transfer 39 prisoners charged with involvement in last year’s Port Said stadium disaster from the Suez canal city to Wadi Natroun jail in Egypt’s Beheira governorate.

Helmy El-Hanafy, health ministry undersecretary in Port Said, said that 33 people had suffered birdshot injuries, while 16 others suffered other injuries.

Twenty-year-old Ibrahim Shoman suffered serious eye injuries after being hit with shrapnel.

Three soldiers from Egypt’s armed forces, which intervened to stop the clashes, were also reported injured.

Civilians could be seen around the area aiding soldiers, many of whom also suffered from teargas inhalation

There were reports that the Army and the police were shooting at each other during the violence.
