Talk about grasping at straws.

Former President Clinton, back on the campaign trail for President Obama on Wednesday, said the response to Hurricane Sandy helped illustrate the real difference between the president and Mitt Romney.

This election is a decision between “whether we like all this ideological talk or whether we’d like to get back to practical problem-solving,” Clinton said, speaking in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Clinton began his stump speech in what he called an “unconventional” way, by referring to the homes lost and damage done by the recent storm. He mentioned his home in New York City, where the hurricane that struck earlier this week left millions without power or transportation.

“It reminded me that when something like this happens, we know what we oughta know every day,” Clinton said. “We oughta know that when you get a political job, it’s still a job. When you’re dealing with a lot of problems, there’s not a Republican or Democratic way to solve them. You either solve them or you don’t.”

He went on to credit Obama with approaching the problems of the country — ranging from the economy to the hurricane — from a basis of “shared responsibility.”
