Honestly, I hope Obama keeps it up, it’s not doing his campaign any favors.
Via Politico:
Obama spokeswoman Jen Psaki says the campaign was tapping into a “grassroots outcry” when it put together an ad attacking Mitt Romney for wanting to de-fund Big Bird.
“There’s been a strong grassroots outcry over the attacks on Big Bird. This is something that mothers across the country are alarmed about, and you know, we’re tapping into that,” Psaki told reporters aboard Air Force One on Wednesday.
While some have questioned the campaign’s seriousness and intent to put money behind the ad in swing states, Psaki maintained that it is running on cable networks – albeit during comedy shows – that swing-state viewers watch. […]
She lashed out at Romney and other Republicans for criticizing the Big Bird campaigning.
“We understand that when your policy plan is a vapid collection of dusting off the Bush playbook on economic policies that would lead us to the same crisis we just have been going through, and embracing the extreme, out-of-the-mainstream foreign policy positions that have also caused us problems, as the Romney-Ryan team has, that you don’t have a lot to talk about, you’re going to attack us on Big Bird, Psaki said. “But you know, we’re going to go back, and you’ll hear the president today continue to lay out the choice and talk about all the substantive policy issues that we think people are making their decisions about.”
