CHARLOTTE, N.C. – At an event for youth held Monday afternoon at the Democratic National Convention Patrick Gaspard, executive director of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), compared 2008 Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin to Lord Voldemort, the villian in the Harry Potter book and movie series.
After calling 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney “one of the of the most extreme right-wing candidates to ever have the Republican nomination,” Gaspard said, claiming that Romney is even further to the right of President Barack Obama’s 2008 opponent, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).
“Think about this for a second,” he told the group. “When John McCain was running with ‘that person’ in 2008 – I don’t say that name – it’s like Voldemort, you just [cut yourself off],” he said as the crowd drowned him out with laughter.
