Officials in Gedo displayed the bodies of three suspected al-Shabaab militants on Saturday (August 18th), after they were killed in a failed terrorist attack, UN-funded Radio Bar-Kulan reported.
Beled-Hawo District Commissioner Mohammoud Ahmed Beyhani said the militants were planting explosives around the site of Sunday’s Eid al-Fitr prayer in the town, when the explosives detonated prematurely, killing the perpetrators.
Clashes in late July between al-Shabaab and Somalia’s Transitional Federal Government soldiers backed by the Kenya Defence Forces left 26 militants dead and many wounded, according to Gedo Governor Mohamed Abdikalil.
