Turkish military has provided insurgents fighting against the Syrian government with surface-to-air Stinger missiles during a brief incursion into the Syrian soil.
More than 100 Turkish troops backed with armored vehicles and helicopters entered the Syrian border town of Cerablos in the Kurdish region of Kobani on Tuesday.
The contingent of Turkish soldiers, who were armed with thermal rockets and sophisticated weaponry, reportedly left for their bases after an hour.
A spokesman for the Kurdish militias in the border towns of Kobani and Efrin accused the Turkish forces of supplying arms and ammunition to insurgents fighting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government.
The NBC News also reported on July 31 that nearly two dozen MANPADs (man-portable air-defense systems) have been delivered to the insurgents in Syria by Turkey.
Meanwhile, some reports suggest that anti-government insurgents operating in Aleppo may have been provided with chemical weapons.
The Syrian army launched a mop-up operation against insurgents in the flashpoint city of Aleppo on Wednesday and so far has managed to retake full control of insurgents’ stronghold of Salahuddin.
