The presidential campaigns took the weekend off from negative campaigning, but on Monday the break seems to be over.
President Obama’s campaign took the first shot when senior adviser David Axelrod brought his hammer to the subject of Mitt Romney’s tax returns.
“When it comes to secrecy, Mitt takes the gold!” Axelrod tweeted, tying the subject into Romney’s previous leadership of the Salt Lake City Olympics Committee.
Obama’s campaign has blasted Romney for not releasing more than two years of his personal tax returns, accusing him of hiding something, but Romney maintains that two years is enough. ABC News also reported on Monday that many documents from the Salt Lake Organizing Committee are not being released to the public. Axelrod publicized the story.
Eric Fehrnstrom, the Romney adviser typically most prolific on Twitter and often the first to respond through the medium to Axelrod, has not tweeted since Friday.
