Here come the goons.

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) launched on Tuesday a massive grass-roots campaign to help President Obama’s and the union’s other endorsed candidates’ election efforts.

SEIU, one of the country’s most politically aggressive unions, will focus on eight crucial swing states: Colorado, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Virginia.

The union will field a more than 100,000-strong volunteer army, staffed by union and non-union members, to help their chosen candidates. The union’s campaign aims to reach voters through 13 million phone calls, knock on 3 million doors and hold more than 1 million conservations across the country.

Brandon Davis, SEIU’s national political director, told reporters on a conference call that it was the union’s largest-ever field campaign and that they would be active in federal and state races this fall.

The dollar investment for the union is expected to be substantial.

“It will be a very similar to the investment that was made in 2008,” Davis said.

SEIU officials have said in the past that the union spent $85 million on its 2008 political program.
