First lady Michelle Obama on Tuesday denied that she wields her high popularity over her husband, defending him for “being so consistent in disregarding the chatter.”
Jon Stewart, host of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” suggested that the first lady — whose favorability hit 69 percent in a poll from Washington Post/ABC News released last month, a double-digit lead on her husband — is like “ice cream” to the country.
“You exaggerate,” the first lady replied. But she added that the president is more like “vegetables” in comparison.
“No, I don’t wield it over him,” she said of the popularity disparity. “The truth is, one of the things I’ve seen over the last three and a half years is, I’ve seen what it takes to be president. I kind of watch this thing pretty closely.”
