A new Obama fundraising appeal begs supporters to help defend the president from Republicans who may run ads featuring his controversial former pastor Jeremiah Wright.

Referring to yesterday’s report of an advertising plan developed by a GOP consultant, campaign manager Jim Messina warns supporters in an email that Republicans will “spend millions on inflammatory TV ads using everything from Rev. Jeremiah Wright to images of the September 11th attacks” against Obama.

“A 54-page, $10 million proposal by top Republican strategists titled “The Defeat of Barack Hussein Obama” shows in vivid and gruesome detail what the President and all of us are up against,” writes Messina asking supporters to donate money to defend the president.

“This is going to be worse than we could have imagined. President Obama needs your help to stop it before it starts,” he concludes.
