Why do I get the feeling he’ll drop the class warfare schtick during his fundraisers?

(Palm Beach Post) — President Obama makes his first visit to Palm Beach County as chief executive today — raising campaign cash in Palm Beach Gardens and calling for higher taxes on the wealthy in Boca Raton before heading to more fundraisers in Hollywood and Golden Beach.

The presidential visit could cause some traffic snarls as Obama moves about the county.

After Air Force One makes a late-morning landing at Palm Beach International Airport, Obama is scheduled to visit the Palm Beach Gardens home of former Pratt & Whitney executive Hansel Tookes for a $10,000-a-plate lunch to raise money for his reelection effort.

The president will then travel to the Boca Raton campus of Florida Atlantic University for what is billed as a non-campaign event on the economy. Obama is expected to promote the “Buffett Rule,” a call for those making $1 million or more per year to pay at least 30 percent of their income in taxes.

Democrats are pushing the millionaire’s tax as a Senate prepares for a procedural vote on a Buffett-inspired bill next week.

Obama’s FAU speech is open only to students, staff and faculty who got tickets through an online lottery. A crowd of about 3,000 is expected.

Obama will be the second sitting president to visit the university. Lyndon Johnson attended the school’s dedication in 1964. FAU also hosted a Republican presidential debate in 2008 and the Dalai Lama in 2010.

After his FAU appearance, Obama will head to Hollywood for a fundraiser at the Westin Diplomat Hotel, then to Golden Beach for a $15,000-a-head dinner fundraiser at the home of attorney Jeremy Alters in Golden Beach.
