According to a Pew Research poll from last year the majority do want sharia, including the stoning of adulterers.

Cairo: Egypt’s most powerful opposition group, the Muslim Brotherhood, does not rule out the imposition of Sharia Law in the country.

Speaking to NDTV’s Noopur Tewari in Paris, a member of the banned group said that the treaty with Israel was unjust and should be changed. The group, deeply involved in political activism, is Egypt’s largest Islamic organization and is banned in the country.

“The Muslim Brotherhood are interested in the government, in the law that protects human dignity, freedom, equal opportunities, that stops corruption, and in favour of development. . . We are not rallying actively for Sharia Law, but it the majority wants it, then why not?” said Dr Kamal El Helbawy, Member, Muslim Brotherhood.

On the issue of Israel, Dr Kamal El Helbawy said that a treaty built of injustice would not stand the test of time, and needed to be amended.

“Israelis bring up their children with anti-Arab sentiments . . . they are training their children to become militants. The treaty with Israel must be changed,” he said.
