Col. Edward Bohnemann, commander, 172nd Infantry Brigade, walks on patrol in the remote village of Marzak to survey new Afghan Local Police checkpoints. Marzak has historically been a stronghold for the insurgency over the past decade until the Afghan and U.S Forces took advantage of the winter months to establish a local police force and secure the village from foreign fighters who transit the area during the fighting season.

Marzak has historically been a stronghold for the insurgency over the past decade until the Afghan and U.S forces took advantage of the winter months to establish a local police force and secure the village from foreign fighters who transit the area during the fighting season.

Sgt. Andrew Pruitt, personal security detail medic, 172nd Infantry Brigade, scans distant hills outside the village of Marzak for signs of enemy activity. The brigade command team came to the remote village to survey progress of new Afghan Local Police checkpoints being constructed in the area to interdict insurgent activity.
