(Emirates 24/7) — An Indian tailor in Saudi Arabia finally summed up his courage and touched the hand of an Arab female customer who he likes. The man now needs to sum up more courage as he faces seven months in jail and 160 lashes.
The woman was enquiring about her dress at the tailoring workshop in the western Red Sea port of Jeddah when the Indian man came to her.
She told police that he touched her hand and invited her to his house, adding that he also offered her money and said he wanted to marry her.
The unnamed worker had first denied the woman’s claims, saying she reported him because she was angry about the delay in finishing her dress.
He told investigators that he had always considered her as a sister and that she reciprocated that feeling. But he later confessed to having touched her hand and that he made a mistake and feels sorry.
“The court sentenced him to seven months in prison and 160 lashes over four sessions including 40 lashes every week….he was also made to write a statement admitting his mistakes and pledging to follow the right way and stay away from any bad behavior,” Okaz Arabic language daily said.
