Alright, who’s the jerk who de-friended Mohamed Mokhtar al-Mahdy?
CAIRO: Mohamed Mokhtar al-Mahdy, general director of the community of the Quran and Sunnah workers, said during a speech that social networking websites Twitter and Facebook were started by “seculars and liberals” to be an outlet for their “deviant thoughts”.
The 73 year-old Islamic scholar was speaking to students at al-Azhar university in Cairo, in a conference titled “media between construction and destruction”. He added that “God turned these two outlets to one of the Islamic world tools, after the state security prohibited conservative Muslims from appearing on TV channels.
He added that media should ignore secular and liberals and not give them a chance to speak on programs so “they don’t spread their poisonous ideas into society. The community that Mahdy heads is responsible for educating Islamic scholars and preachers in the sum of 22 Egyptian cities.
