At his final fundraiser Thursday in New York, a dessert reception at the home of interior decorator Michael Smith, President Obama said his Republican rivals have provided more than enough fodder for his reelection campaign during their debates.

“We’re thinking of just airing these as advertisements — without commentary. Here you go, this is what they said some time ago,” he said, according to a pool report.

Later, Obama said the GOP had moved so far to the right that Sen. John McCain is “somebody who, frankly, could never get a nomination in the Republican Party this time around — would be considered too liberal,” the pool report said.
