Abortionists, unionists and Obama – the trifecta is complete.
(Detroit News) — Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards urged nearly 1,700 United Auto Workers members and retirees to work to re-elect President Barack Obama and other allies, saying the two organizations have been the “punching bags” of Republicans.
“President Obama stood with us and we are going to stand with him,” Richards said Sunday night. The women’s health group has been heavily attacked by Republicans in Congress and GOP presidential candidates. “We didn’t pick these fights, but by God, we’re going to win.”
Richards fired up union members, including hundreds from Metro Detroit.
“The two organizations that have become the punching bags in the Republican primary are the United Auto Workers and Planned Parenthood,” Richards said. “… we’re proud to stand with you. We’ve got your back and we know you have ours.”
The Detroit-based UAW has about 376,000 members and has come under attack from Republican candidates Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich. Last week in Troy, Romney vowed to end federal funding for Planned Parenthood.
“The right wing is bringing progressives together like never before,” she said. “These folks are against women, they are against working people, they are against the middle class.”
UAW President Bob King said “… the Republican Party has gone so extreme and so far to the right that I think people are going to come together and say we want fair wages, we want health care, we want our cities rebuilt,” King said. “Republicans are blocking all that.”
