Hillary Clinton, who always protests she has no interest in another White House run, has said she’d need “a blood transfusion” to take politics out of her system – and joked about her “enthusiasm” for President Barack Obama.

Yesterday, the US Secretary of State strayed into the 2012 race for the White House by telling students in Tunisia that they should ignore Republican campaign rhetoric, in part because President Barack Obama would win in November: “He will be re-elected president.”

Talking on CNN today, she conceded it might have been better if she had refrained from commenting about the 2012 race.

But the most revealing part of the interview was a joke she made about her “enthusiam” for Obama. “Probably, my enthusiasm for the president got a little out of hand,” she said, laughing heartily as if to signal how ridiculous such a proposition is given everything she said in 2008.

Asked by CNN’s Elise Labott if the comment in Tunisia meant the political juices were still flowing, she responded: “I’ve tried to dampen them down. I’ve tried to have them taken out, in a blood transfusion, but occasionally they rear their heads.”
