Military personnel stationed in Afghanistan will undergo training over the next two weeks in the “proper handling of religious materials,” after the burning of Qurans at Bagram Air Force Base sparked a protest by local Afghans today.
“Marine Corps Gen. John R. Allen, ISAF commander, today ordered that all coalition forces in Afghanistan complete the training by March 3,” the International Security Assistance Force announced today. An angry crowd gathered after local Afghan workers found partially-burnt copies of Qurans in a trash heap at Bagram, according to Reuters.
