I call BS. Major BS.

President Barack Obama’s drive to renew the payroll tax cut took on a desperate air Tuesday, just as he appeared to be on the verge of winning the argument.

A blog post on the White House web site said, in essence, that a Texas girl will die if the payroll tax cut is not extended past the end of the month.

“$40 a paycheck means I have to choose which medication my daughter takes gets put off, and not like something simple we are talking choice or of life or death. My daughter is a liver transplant [patient] and is waiting for another transplant,” Heather from Texas wrote, apparently in messages the White House collected as part of a #40dollars Twitter campaign. “For few that money isn’t important [,] for us it means not losing a family member, keeping our jobs, or feeding the family.” (When I read the blog post in my Google reader an oversized photo of Heather’s ill daughter occupied almost my entire screen.)

Obama underscored that message during an event in the White House complex Tuesday.

“Allowing this tax cut to expire would make people’s lives harder right now. It would make their choices more difficult. It would be $40 less for groceries to feed your kids; it would be $40 less for the medications you depend on,” the president said.

No need to worry, they hashed out a deal this morning, so the kid (if she exists which is highly doubtful) will live.
