(RTTNews) – Two suspected militants planting roadside bombs in southern Afghanistan were killed in a combined air strike by Afghan and coalition security forces on Tuesday.

The joint operation was carried out in search of a Haqqani leader in Manduzai district of Khost province, The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) Joint Command said in an operational update.

The terror leader operates an insurgents’ cell in Nadir Shah Kot district and plans roadside bomb attacks throughout the area.

During the operation, security forces observed a group of insurgents burying a 45 kilogram bomb alongside a road. They assessed the threat and called for a precision air strike, killing two insurgents. Three militants were detained following the air strike.
