Normally, I could care less who endorses who, this would be the exception for me personally (I know not everyone will agree).

(Politico) — John Bolton, the hawkish former ambassador to the United Nations under George W. Bush, endorsed Mitt Romney Wednesday night.

“I think Gov. Romney is the person who can best lead the party, best articulate our conservative principles and is most likely to beat Barack Obama,” Bolton told Greta Van Susteren on Fox News.

Bolton had talked about a presidential bid of his own last year, but announced in September that he would not run.

Once it was clear Bolton would not pursue a presidential run of his own, he had been heavily courted by several GOP hopefuls, including Rick Perry and Newt Gingrich. Gingrich even worked a promise to appoint Bolton as his Secretary of State into some versions of his stump speech. […]

He also praised Romney’s foreign policy views, saying the former Massachusetts governor “fully understands the challenges we face” and that he is “very confident about the strength of [Romney’s] view about American exceptionalism.”

Bolton said his decision was a difficult one.

“I’ve thought about this very hard,” he said. “This is an extraordinarily important decision for the Republican Party.”
