More like, all day every day.
(NYDN) — Regrets, President Obama has had a few.
A candid Obama reflected on the first three years of administration and freely admitted he has made mistakes
“Oh, I think probably once a day, I look back and I say, ‘You know, I could have done that a little bit better,’” Obama told ABC’s Barbara Walters in an interview set to air Friday.
Obama accepted some blame for the gridlock that has engulfed Washington — and acknowledged that he has fallen short of his campaign pledge to lead in a post-partisan fashion.
“That mindset doesn’t exist in Washington right now,” Obama said in sit-down, “and I do take some responsibility for making sure that that spirit which I think the country longs for, that we can somehow get that in the Congress as well.”
“But that seems to be a longer than one-term project,” the President said.
Obama — who acknowledged that he is now grayer and thinner than when he took office — chastised himself for not effectively communicating to the public that the nation’s economic recovery was going to be a “long haul.”
He also admitted he should have been stronger in his dealings with the Republican-controlled Congress — and acknowledged that his penchant to compromise alienated some of his liberal base.
“I think that there were times in my first couple a years where I kept on sitting there trying to see if we can negotiate some sort of compromise,” Obama said, “and there just was a lot of refusal on the other side’s part to compromise.”
