Yeah, but what about the “bed intruder” guy?
(Politico) — George H.W. Bush once spoke of his “thousand points of light” and how they could provide “light at the end of the tunnel, a rainbow through the clouds.”
Paul Vasquez sees a different way that rainbows and politics might connect.
Nicknamed “Bear” by his friends thanks to his scraggly looks, Vasquez is better known as the “Double Rainbow” guy who became a YouTube sensation last year when his video of a double rainbow in California went viral. It earned him both notoriety — and mockery — even getting a mention by Jimmy Fallon on his late-night show.
Vasquez’s video has been viewed nearly 32 million times on Youtube.
Riding his 15 minutes of fame, Vasquez teased presidential ambitions in — what else — a YouTube video in May but, as the new year approaches he isn’t exactly amping up his 2012 operation, in part, he says, because President Barack Obama looks bound for a second term.
“Once he’s really geared up, he’s going to be hard to beat. They say any Republican can beat him, but I think that when he really gears up, people are just going to re-elect him,” Vasquez said. “I think he’s had a tough job. I think he was left with a big mess, so I think that, overall, he’s done a pretty good job. Do I think he could have done better? Yeah, everyone can always do better.”
But Vasquez says Obama still remains the best option, including the current field of Republican candidates.
“I think he deserves to keep going because I think the alternative — getting a Republican back in office — is scary.”
