The ultimate catch and release.
The man shot and killed by a Border Patrol agent Thursday committed a murder before attempting to carjack a man at gunpoint, police said.
Police officers responded to a shooting on the 100 block of S. Santa Fe just before 6 p.m.
Border Patrol agents were already in the area responding after BP spokesman Jose Romero said they heard gunshots near the Greyhound bus station.
The agents saw the armed suspect running away from a possible robbery scene.
The agents chased the gunman to the intersection of Overland and Santa Fe, where they saw him holding the driver of a vehicle at gunpoint, trying to carjack him, police said.
The unidentified man drew his gun and pointed it at the Border Patrol agents, said Romero.
That’s when agents told the man to drop his weapon but he refused. The agents shot and killed him, Romero said.
Police said the suspect may have been trying to rob the man he initially shot. That man was taken to University Medical Center where he died.
