The Pentagon says it briefly lost contact with two small Navy craft in the Persian Gulf on Tuesday but has received assurances from Iran that the crew and vessels will be returned safely and promptly.
Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook tells The Associated Press that the boats were moving between Kuwait and Bahrain when the US lost contact with them.
Cook says, “We have been in contact with Iran and have received assurances that the crew and the vessels will be returned promptly.”
IGRC (the Iranian Revolutionary Guard) differs:
Glad they’re asking the right questions and focusing on the important things, like Obama’s speech:
Iranian media is saying they have been arrested, according to Iran, 9 men, 1 woman.
They’re being held on Farsi Island. Here’s a map.
An earlier report had said they were in a Riverine patrol boat which is smaller, with less equipment. Now they are saying they were in command boats which looks like this.
Daily Beast is reporting that senior defense officials are saying the sailors will be held through Wednesday.
Media now being told that Iran has said that they will return the sailors to a ship from the USS Truman(that’s the ship they shot rockets near). We shall see.
