The optics of holding these parties while Americans suffer apparently doesn’t bother Obama.
President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will host a concert next week honoring songwriters Burt Bacharach and Hall David.
Obama will present Bacharach and David the 2012 Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song in a performance that will be broadcast on PBS and the Armed Forces Network.
The concert will performances by Sheryl Crow, Michael Feinstein, Diana Krall, Lyle Lovett, Mike Myers, Rumer, Arturo Sandoval, Sheléa and Stevie Wonder.
According to the White House, it’s the first time that the Gershwin Prize has been awarded to a songwriting duo.
It’s the ninth in the “Performance at the White House Series” — a series that launched in February 2009.
